U.S. Foreign Policy - Personal Opinions

Venezuela becoming an arm raced region by receiving help from Russia and is now having the preparation set to fight against a neighboring country Columbia to a fight to the death.

Countries from the east to west, north to south have always tried to reassure themselves that having a strong military or effective arms force would amplify the strength of the country and or show the defensive capabilities of the country. In this article, it states that Venezuela in the Southern Americas has been utilizing other countries to upgrade the weaponry system to build defensive capabilities. Though it sounds like that Venezuela is trying to build its solid wall against other countries who are threatening it, Hilary Clinton stated:

"We have expressed concerned about the number of Venezuelan arms purchases. They outpace all other countries in South America and certainly raise questions as to whether there is going to be an arms race in the region"

You ask, "Why is Hilary Clinton stating that they are trying to create an arms race?" The article clearly states that Venezuela have been receiving loans from Russia of the amount of 2.2 billon dollars to purchase anti-aircraft missiles and at least a maxed amount of 92 tanks. Though this sounds bad enough that a country is trying to strengthen their military strength, Venezuela is also setting energy sector cooperation with Iran. Now listing a country that the U.S. is clearly an enemy of, currently Venezuela and Columbia are head to head trying to engulf one another to be the dominant country. Though Clinton states that regulating the weapons to have them not fall into the wrong hands in Columbia and Venezuela, Chavez in the end explains that Columbia could be planning to attack Venezuela and increase the constant wars in Southern America.

My Perspective/Opinion

Through my eyes, seeing Venezuela collecting so much armory/weaponry makes it seem very sketchy that the only reason that the country is collecting weapons is that they can face off Columbia which is clearly stated by Chavez. But also, though I have not scrutinized every detail of who, what, where, when, and why about the arms race that is soon to begin with Venezuela I know that even back in the civil wars to the war in Iraq today is that its fought towards who is to achieve "POWER".
To me personally, I believe that since the United States of America is clearly a Super Power state meaning that we strike fear into people’s hearts we clearly make other countries enhance their weaponry to emulate the U.S. itself. Though every country states that "this is just a precautionary thing" it really isn't. The reason why is that to me, for example the Asian country North Korea see us (the U.S.) a threat because we are a huge nation and that we have more fire power than North Korea and we clearly have the label of being extremely "POWERFUL." This also applies towards Iran and Russia as well and so they too take precautionary actions.

Sometimes I really think that having the right to "bear arms" is pretty ridiculous because though it is called a sport in some states/countries, having that right could be abused any time and anywhere by any one man/women. I wished that weapons could be vanquished and that everyone in the world, the 6.6 billion people who live on the planet earth could live in utopian world, but again it would end up into a miserable failure because of our human nature instincts. But then I see it at a different angle, that having the right to "bear arms" helps we regulate "order" and "structure" in our governments and lives. Without any guide lines we as in the people who live on the earth would become to ruins. So in the end, there are always pros and cons to having weaponry and not having weaponry.

Just to notify everyone who has read this, this is clearly not 100% correct information so I would like to apologize. But anyways, I believe that having to be in a dog eat dog world and to become a middle man in that situation is not fun because of threats and fear struck into people’s hearts is just ridiculous. But I would like to just get rid of weapons themselves to see what kind of outcome the people would turn out to be.

  1. I liked this but there are some grammar mistakes that you should look out for. I liked how you summerized the article coherently and reletively quickly and then gave your educated opinion afterward so that readers know what you are talking about.
